How do you connect the AI your office already has (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) to Revit tools?
VITRU is the pipe that connects your office's AI to the Vitruvius tools, and the brain is your AI. There are three ways to connect, and the tools work with no AI at all. We do not sell tokens.

- How do you connect the AI your office already has (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) to Revit tools?
Three ways to connect
L-11.1VITRU does not depend on a particular provider. You pick one of three ways, according to what your office already has:
| Way | Who it fits | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| ① Microsoft AI in your office's Azure account (recommended) | An office with Microsoft 365 or Azure | No key: you sign in with your office account. An admin approves once |
| ② An AI app installed on your computer | Anyone already using Claude Desktop, Codex, Antigravity or Cursor | The subscription you already have, no keys |
| ③ Your own API key | Anyone with a key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI | Paste the key; you pay the provider per use |
Where the data goes for each option
L-11.2What is verified today:
- Way 2: VITRU adds the Vitruvius tools to the app as a local server, on your computer, with no server in between.
- Way 3: the key is stored in the Windows credential manager, on your computer only. Billing is directly with the provider, and we do not see the key or charge on it.
The full data-flow line for each option will be published once it is approved in a security review.

What doesn't work yet
L-11.3- Chat in a browser or on a phone (ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini) doesn't connect to Revit.
- Neither does Copilot's chat. Those will come later.
- Connecting with your personal provider subscription from inside VITRU itself isn't possible: the subscription works only through the provider's own app, as in the second way.
- The browser version of an AI app has no access to local tools, so way 2 works only in the desktop app.
What works with no AI at all
L-11.4The tools do not depend on VITRU. The fix in VIT DWG Editor works with no AI: "Fix Text", "Restore Text", "Apply CTB" and "Edit Layers" run inside Revit without opening AutoCAD. A backup of the original file is saved before every fix.
AI is an addition on top of the base, not a condition for it. A per-tool table is in What works with no AI and no internet.

Frequently asked questions
L-11.6Is VITRU our AI?
No. VITRU is the pipe that routes, and the brain is the AI your office connects. That AI is the one that uses the pipe to work with the Vitruvius tools. We do not provide tokens and we do not charge for model usage, so there is no dependence on a particular provider.
What is the recommended way to connect?
For an office with Microsoft 365 or Azure, we recommend Microsoft AI in the office's Azure account. There is no key to manage, and every architect signs in with the office account. An admin signs in once and approves, and if the office has no Azure account yet, opening one is a one-time step.
Can I connect a browser chat, such as ChatGPT or Gemini?
Not today. Chat in a browser or on a phone doesn't connect to Revit, and neither does Copilot's chat. Connecting those is planned for a later stage, with no date. You can use an AI app installed on your computer, or your own API key, in the meantime.
Do I pay Vitruvius for using the AI?
Not for tokens. Vitruvius does not sell tokens. With your own API key you pay the provider directly per use, and with an app on your computer you use the subscription you already have. VITRU itself is a free tool of the plugin, with no buy button.
What works if I connect no AI?
The tools themselves work. The fix in VIT DWG Editor runs inside Revit with no AI, and without opening AutoCAD. AI is a layer on top of the base, not a condition for it. The table on what works with no AI and no internet details the base and the addition for each tool.
